4. CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING ACTIVITY: Direct Teach. After viewing the video above on a direct teach, respond to the three questions listed below. Be prepared to discuss your responses in class, and bring a copy of your responses (with your name on your paper) to submit to me. Here are the questions:

What is the purpose of "write to learn" and "student/peer talk?"
How does Ms. Culver use questioning to push her students' understanding?
What engagement strategies can you learn from Ms. Culver?

2. Adaptation of Instructional Materials Directions on submitting this assignment - Please read carefully. If working in pairs, each pair member must take responsibility for planning and organizing the assignments. Each pair member must complete at least one part (approximately half) of every pair assignment. This might involve being the person who: 1) starts a first draft for the other pair member to build on, 2) develops graphics,3) gathers appropriate instructional resources, 4) does research, or 5) proofs and perfects the final version.
For each pair assignment, each member of the pair will indicate that s/he contributed to and approves the final product and will complete an individual reflection describing her/his contribution to the end product. Each individual reflection is to be typed on separate pieces of paper with the each student’s name typed on his/her respective paper. The reflections are to be stapled to the back of the completed assignment. Each pair member is to turn in a copy of the assignment with his/her respective reflection stapled to the back of the assignment. Assignments lacking these reflections will not be accepted.
